the galleries

These pieces are sculpted direct onto board using a gypsum compound. The finishing/colouring is the same as for the Series Pieces, but the technique means that each one is completely original.

My work is divided into three separate galleries, to reflect different sculptural styles:

These are smaller pieces often used as studies for larger works. They are not limited and can use either of the techniques outlined above. They usually have natural Ash frames and a white background.

The originals of these pieces are sculpted in a wax, flexible moulds taken and then casts made in a synthetic gypsum. These are prepared, sealed and painted using a fine liquid acrylic system. The backboards and frames, are prepared and painted using the same system. The frames are usually made of Ash.                                                                        A piece may be reworked as a continuation or redevelopment of a theme, in which case it is given a Roman numeral to show its position in the “series”. Two pieces with the same name could therefore be of different size, colour and general “feel”.

A lot of the inspiration for these pieces comes from nature.

A recurring theme is the borders between two dimensions or states:

Music/Art  Land/Sea  2D/3D etc.

I have worked as an artist since 1988, mostly producing my own range of giftware. For the last three or four years I have been trying to develop this medium as fine art and have held several solo and joint exhibitions in the U.K.
